The LONG BEACH, formerly of German register, is seen in dry dock at Porte de Commerce. The ship was captured by the British in 1915, recaptured by the Germans shortly afterward, and interned in the when war was declared. It recently ran aground off Brest in fog, was underwater for nearly two months, and is now being repaired. This photograph was taken by Lt. E. N. Jackson, as part of the Photographs of American Military Activities during World War One series. It is numbered 111-SC-31936 and was taken in Base Section # 5 in Brest, Finistere, France.
