Leopard Tortoise (Stigmochelys pardalis). Head fully withdrawn into the shell. Fore legs, covered in large scales protect the sensitive anatomy within. Shell scutes showi growth rings, melanin, markings, cryptic, camouflage, but lacking a mid peripheral nuchal scute in this species of testudine.
