Flers memorial to the British infantry 41st Division, who supported the tank assault on Flers on 15th Sept 1916, Somme, France.
The 41st Division arrived on the Somme from Flanders in early September 1916. On 15th September they took part in the attack on Flers, supported by tanks. At one point a tank was clearing the village by driving down the main street supported by infantry; directly in front of where the memorial now stands. The memorial is a copy of the Royal Fusiliers memorial at Holborn in London: the 26th (Bankers) and 32nd (East Ham) Battalions both served with this division.
