Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound, Trenton, ME, USA. One of the numerous roadside “Lobster Pounds” or shacks on Maine’s north Atlantic coast. Most of the roadside pounds are only a counter and a few outdoor picnic tables, the pounds were created in Maine during the 1870’s as a way of keeping Lobsters alive in seawater until they are boiled and eaten. In front of the Pound are the wood-fired brick cookers used to boil lobsters in seawater. Trenton Bridge is the crossing point from the mainland to Mount Desert Island and 12 miles (19km) South to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Wild-caught lobster is Maine’s top fishery, contributing more than one billion dollars per year to the state’s economy
