The shavings are fiequently left hanging from thetop of the sacred willow-stick, called inao, and thisgives it .something of the appearance of a mop. A largeinao is kept constantly in the northeast corner of thehouse, whence it is never removed. It is called the oldman, and the Ainus dislike to speak on the subject,and regard it with great reverence.
