Vintage low barn cloche protecting parsley from winter frost, rain and wind. Gwynedd, North Wales, UK

A vintage, low barn cloche protecting parsley from winter frost, as well as rain and wind. The top vent is open to minimise condensation. The ends sealed with panes of glass held in place by sticks tied to metal frame with recycled strips from clothes. The weight of the glass and securely fastened ends makes these cloches very stable in strong winds. The wire frames have been handed down through three generations of one family so should date from circa 1940. Photographed after heavy hoar frost.
