Duodenum. Light micrograph showing the Brunner glands located on the submucosa on a circular fold, or Kerckring valve. Brunner's glands are compound tubuloalveolar glands that secrete alkaline (bicarbonate-containing) mucus. The duodenal epithelium shows many goblet cells.
