Customer dialing is now in a statecomparable to that of operator tolldialing about 1943. Customers aredialing short-haul toll and multi-unitcalls very successfully in limitedfields, concentrated particularly inmetropolitan areas. In these areas,automatic ticketing, zone registra-tion, and local automatic message ac-counting (AMA) are all in use forrecording billing information. Plans are being made for futureextension of customer dialing, includ-ing the use of a centralized AMA ar-rangement now under development. Extension of customer
