I conceive it impossible that so accurate anobserver as Colonel Montagu could have seen the Magdala striata, (Mya Norwegica of authors,) because that shellhas no tooth, but is furnished with a detached horizontal plate, (see Plate II, fig. 10,) wliich is attached to eachvalve by a cartilage; and I of course consider tlie above shell as a distinct genus, from its having a fixed toothin one valve ; and if Montagus figure is correct, from which I have copied the above, the tooth is quite diflferentin shape from the plate of the M. striata.
