Passengers on a platform a Waverley Station in Edinburgh. The station can be full of activity as a major stop for trains traveling to London, Glasgow and also the norhtern regions of Scotland. At left, is an inter-city express about to depart for London's King Cross Station. The fast train hits speeds of up to 140 miles per hour and makes the just under 400-mile journey in just over four hours. Edinburgh's Waverley Station was built in 1866 when it replaced other existing stations.
