New Eng:laDd Notes. Bayside, L. I.—A boiler explosion set fire to the greenhouses of William Bell, January 4, and damage to the extent of $8,000 resulted. Lowell, Mass.—Chas. L. Marshall fell from his windmill, on which he was at work, December 12, and was seriously- injured, having a narrow escape from instant death. Hartford, Conn.—Plans for the laying out and planting of the grounds about th? Connecticut building at St. Louis have been prepared by Robert Karlstrom, of the Hartford park department. Springfield, Mass.—Plans have been perfected for a new horticultural building at Amherst College, which it is hoped will receive the needed appropriation from the State Legislature. The esti- mated cost will be about $25,000. New Bedford, Mass.—W. P. Pierce, of New Bedford, was surprised December 8, by a large party of friends, who presented him with a fine harness, blanket, and whip to complete the outfit of a new delivery wagon recently purchased. New Haven, Conn.—Yale University sustained a severe loss in the destruction of the Forestry School building by fire the morning of December 12.
