Conflict known as Kulturkampf, originated by Otto von Bismarck (1815-1898) with the purpose to subject to the Catholic Church under the control of the German state. Caricature with the tittle Modus vivendi: Pope Leo XIII, that stretches his leg to Bismarck so that he kisses his feet. Bismarck also raises his leg. In the middle, Ludwig Windthorst, leader of the Centre Party. Engraving after a drawing by Wilhelm Scholz, 1878. Later colouration.
