This evening went to the Comedie Francaise at Versailles ;saw La Rencontre Imprevue, followed by La Triple Mariage ; both very wellplayed, and exceeding ours by having all the parts well played. After thecomedy, went to the Hotel de Comedie, and soon after received a polite in-vitation to sup with Madame Montensier, Directrice et Proprittaire de VOptrade Versailles, with three lovely girls, and one most lovely in person and easy 74 FIRST AERIAL VOYAGE ACROSS THE ENGLISH CHANNEL. JOHN JEFFRIES, manners, and a number of gents, several of those I had seen perform inthe comedy. Jan. 13th.
