Powdery dudleya (Dudleya farinosa) clings to a rocky cliff over the Pacific Ocean near Fort Bragg, California

Powdery dudleya (Dudleya farinosa), a succulent plant also known as bluff lettuce or powdery liveforever, is common along the coast of northern California and into Oregon. However, in recent years, plant poachers have dug up large swaths of these and similar plants as part of illegal trade with East Asia, where they are popular with succulent enthusiasts. Sadly, many of the plants can't survive outside their narrow habitat range.
