Discarded Christmas trees, properly devoid of tinsel and ornaments, await pick up by the Dept. of Sanitation during Mulchfest in New York on Friday, January 9, 2015. New York provides curbside pick up of discarded Christmas trees, provided tinsel, stands and other decorations are removed, until January 16, 2015. The trees are chipped into mulch distributed parks and community gardens. Alternatively, New Yorkers can bring their trees over the weekend to various park locations to have them chipped.
