This was an ancient citadel on a rocky outcrop above Athens built around 1500 BC and turned into a temple area mainly in the 5th century BC. Nowadays it is a major attraction in Greece. Die Akropolis von Athen thront auf einem Felsen hoch über der Stadt. Sie war um 1500 v. Chr. eine Festungsanlage, wandelte sich vor allem im fünften Jahrhundert vor Christus in einen Tempel-Bezirk und ist heute die wohl größte Touristen-Attraktion in Griechenland. Eines der wichtigsten Bauwerke dort ist der Parthenon, ein zwischen 447 und 438 vor Christus erbauter Tempel im ionischen Stil.
