Little Italy neighborhood of New York

Restaurants and businesses along Mulberry Street in the Little Italy neighborhood of New York on Sunday, March 30, 2014. Changing demographics and sharp rent increases have decimated the Little Italy neighborhood reducing the once thriving Italian enclave from a fifty-block area into a short three blocks mostly populated by tourist oriented businesses. Eight restaurants have closed in the past year as their leases came up and negotiations with landlords were fruitless. As Chinatown moves north many Italian businesses had been displaced by businesses catering to their Asian customers. (© Richard B. Levine)
