During World War I, a baseball game took place at an American base near Veleggio, Italy. The game was witnessed by soldiers from the 23rd Battalion of Italian Arditti-Besaglieri and Generals Ferrari and Picori Geraldi. General Ferrari threw the first ball. The exact date of the game is unknown.
