Debiernies LOCALIZATION OF FOREIGN BODIES 175 curate measurements from above and to select the properincision from the surgical point of view. Another sim-ilar problem is presented by the case where a shell frag-ment lodged between the internal malleolus and the as-tragalus. This patient had been operated upon unsuc-cessfully in another hospital. The horizontal localizationshows the interference of the malleolus with the selectionof a direct incision, which should of choice be from be-low. By the use of a secondary band extending belowthe sole of the foot, as is shown in Fig. 26, not only theincision, but accurate measurements from it to the shellfragment are obtained. The charts with the right angledlocalization are given in Fig. 27. It can readily be seenthat, with similar variations of this method, there is nota part of the body which cannot be rendered accessibleand for which data for the extraction of projectiles can-not be obtained.
