Calyx cleft into 5 linear-subulate, subequal segments; keel obliquely truncate, longer than the wings; stamens diadelphous (9 and 1), and with the style abruptly bent near the summit; legume (loment) of several 1-secdod joints connected by their middle.— ^ Mostly herbaceous. Lvs. unequally pinnate. H. bore ale Nutt. Sta. erect; lvs. subsessile, of 6 to 10 pairs of oblong, smooih- isii Ifts.; stip. united, sheathing, with subulate points ; rac. spicate, on long ped- uncles ; fls. numerous, deflexed; cal. teetli short, the lower longest; keel longer than the banner or wings; joints of the legume 1 to 4, flat, suborbicular, rugoso- reticulate.—On the precipitous sides of Willoughby Mt., Westmore, Vt. 500f above tho lake b low, N. to Hudson's Bay.
