Half and half will produce a drink claimed by many to be equal to a good cup of Rio. We grow this plant ourselves and like the coffee that is made from the berry. It is much superior to the cheap low grade coffee that is used so much nowadays, and being pure, so much more wholesome. Many people really prefer this coffee to any other, and their testimonials are so hearty and so strong that it leaves no doubt but that it is a rare novelty and a fine berry. It should be planted early, carefully cultivated and set the plants about two feet apart each way, so as to give abundant room each way to spread and grow and bear abundantly. CHICORY. The dried and prepared roots are used quite extensive- ly as a substitute for, and adulterant of coffee.
