Pasting.—It will be convenient here to givedirections to be observed when pasting with a commence in the centre of the material to becoated with paste, and work the brush outwards inall directions, towards the outer edges. (Fig. 18.)Then cross hand over hand for convenience in pastingthe other portion of the surface. Fig. 19 will explainthis. If the above simple rule is always adopted,no paste will ever get on to the under surface. Thinpaste such as is recommended in Chapter XI shouldbe used. It is advisable to keep a stock of old newsor other papers, to place underneath when pasting, asa means of protecting the surface of the pasted papers should receive a nip in the standingpress to set them well together, and when removedthey should be hung upon the line to dry.
