The Fall River Trade and Industry Association was the out-growth of such sentiment, and was organized in January, 1905,upon the broad principle of development, the encouragement oftrade, to more fully advertise Fall Rivers natural advantagesand to assist in procuring and establishing more diversified in-dustries. The Association is composed of business men and propertyholders, having vested and substantial interest in the welfare of 76. H 72 the community; yet it is organized upon such broad principlesthat citizens of all classes can readily come together upon anequal footing to consider matters of importance to the whole. This is the basic principle of our State and national existenceand it is hoped will prove advantageous in the greater develop-ment of our city. One of the important functions of the Fall River Trade andIndustry Association is to educate citizens who have been re-liant only upon cotton mills, to invest with confidence in otherenterprises. Many members of this i\ssociation are owners ofstocks in these various mills, and their interests are deeply iden-tified with the progress and success of this principal not intending to sacrifice any of their interests, thesemembers believe that investments in other enterprises and theencouragement of other industries cannot militate against the in-tere
