GALVESTON, Texas (Jan. 14, 2023) Elizabeth Schneider, Environmental Coordinator, Coastal Zone Management with the Galveston Island Park Board of Trustees, talks about the City of Galveston’s East End Lagoon Nature Preserve with school-age children from Jack and Jill of America, Inc. during a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math field trip to the Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District. In partnership with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Coast Survey, Galveston District hosted more than 50 elementary, middle, and high school students from Jack and Jill of America and their chaperones to learn about all the roles and responsibilities of USACE and the importance of wetlands by visiting City of Galveston’s East End Lagoon Nature Preserve where they learned about map reading, vegetation/plant identification, soil surveys, and more.
