THE SAFETY BRAKE-SHOE The accompanying illustration shows a new brake-shoe re-cently brought out by W. W. Whitcomb,the brake-shoe expert of Boston, and en-titled by him the Safety. The feature ofthis shoe is the fact that extending length-wise through the casting are two pliablesteel rods which will hold the parts to-gether, in case of fracture, and preventtheir falling beneath the car. These rods are not cast into the shoe, butare forced through holes provided in thecasting.
