Peinture antique trouvée à Pompéïa, Recueil d'antiquités dessinées d'après des peintures trouvées à Herculanum, Stabia et Pompeïa qui sont maintenant au musée de Portici à quatre milles de Naples, Montagny, Élie-Honoré, d. 1864, Pencil, ink on paper, 1804 or 1805, The drawing records the detail of a ship from a naumachia panel in a fourth-style wall-painting cut from the south portico of the Temple of Isis (VIII, 7, 28) at Pompeii during the excavations of 1764-1766 and placed in the Bourbon rulers' museum at Portici. The ship is on the left side of the panel, currently in the Museo archeologico in Naples, inv. no. 8529. The artist has added a color key above the ship. This central scene is flanked by drawings copied from Roman lamps, including cupids, a sacrifice and a circus scene. Reimagined by Gibon. Classic art with a modern twist
