Blue and white tiles cover the tombs and shrines of Shah-I-Zinda's "Avenue of Mausoleums." Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

Shah-I-Zinda is an important destination for Muslim pilgrims, as well as a popular destination for tourists. The tile-covered tombs of royalty and holy men are what draw them all. The unique and rich designs on each represent what is probably the richest collection of mosaic art in Central Asia. The mausoleums line both sides of a wide walkway that works its way up a hillside outside of the city. Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
