Language area
Illustration of the location of Brocas area (purple area in the lower left frontal cortex) and Wernickes area (pink area in the upper and rear part of the temporal lobe), language areas in the left hemisphere. Around the lateral sulcus in the left hemisphere there is a sort of neural ring involved in oral comprehension of language and its production through speech. At the frontal extremity of this ring is Brocas area, usually associated with the production of language. At the other extremity is Wernickes area, associated with the treatment of heard speech, in other words, language input. Brocas area and Wernickes area are connected by a large bundle of nerve fibres called the arcuate fasciculus.
