Le Geant, Champ de Mars, October 18, 1863, probably printed 1880/89. Crowds at the launch of The Giant, a balloon commissioned by French photographer Nadar and built by Eugène Godard. It was 60 metres (196 ft) high and had a capacity of 6,000 cubic metres (210,000 cubic ft). Gelatin silver printing out paper print.
