George, who was a son of James and Hannah(Church) George, and a grandson of Dea. AustinGeorge. Born in Dunbarton, Oct. 10, 1820, GilmanC. enjoyed the advantages of a good common-school,and subsequently of an academic course of study atHopkinton and Franklin. He taught school severalwinters. The family removed to Warner in March,1840, and settled on the farm now owned and occu-pied by Ira P. Whittier.
