And I doubt very much whether any cause willstand that is propagated by the shedding of humanblood. Thou shalt not kill, said Jesus, and yetsome of the advocates of temperance and prohibi-tion would be in for forcing it upon the people bycoercion. And while I am in for prohibition first,. and such as regard the purity of the judiciary and thefreedom of the jury fundamental to the political, socialand spiritual welfare of our country, may be held.
