He was a member of the FirstCongregational Church at the head of theriver for thirty years, fifteen years of whicliperiod he was deacon. Mr. Hawes married (first) Harriet June 16, 1796, died Feb. 20, 1820. Hissecond wife, whom he married July 16, 1820,was Azubah Capen, born Nov. 15, 1792,daughter of Jonathan and Jerusha Capen, ofStoughton, Mass. Mr. fLawcs died April 8,1880, when in the eighty-ninth year of hisage, and Mrs. Hawes died in 1879, in hereighty-eighth year.
