The buildings are heatedand lighted with steam and electricity from the central station,and are supplied with water from the town system. King Chapel, named in honor of Governor WilliamKing, the first governor of Maine, is a Romanesque churchof undressed granite, the facade of which is marked bytwin towers and spires which rise to the height of onehundred and twenty feet. The interior, following themodel of English college chapels, is arranged after themanner of a cathedral choir, with a broad central aislefrom either side of which rise the ranges of seats. The BOWDOIN COLLEGE [9 lofty walls are decorated with mural paintings, mostlycopies of old masters, and the decorated ceiling is carriedup into the roof.
