Iguanadon limb anatomy, Illustration of the anatomy and function of the lower and upper limbs of an iguanodon. This herbivorous ornithopod dinosaur lived about 125 million years ago in the Early Cretaceous. The central three digits of the feet were able to hyperextend and bear weight, as shown at lower left. The other digits included a prehensile fifth digit used to forage for food (shown at upper right), and a thumb spike that was used for defence. Iguanodon was able to switch between walking on all fours (quadrupedality) and standing on its hind legs (bipedality).
