Las Medulas is a Spanish landscape formed by an ancient Roman gold mining operation located near the town of the same name, in the El Bierzo region, province of Leon, autonomous community of Castilla y Le n (Spain). It is considered the largest open-pit gold mine in the entire Roman Empire. This impressive landscape goes beyond its unique beauty, surrounded by centuries-old chestnut trees, lagoons, lakes, peaks, and galleries. Las M dulas is one of the greatest engineering works of Antiquity.
