India: A coloured drawing of Sulaiman Shikoh (15 March 1635 - 16 May 1662), eldest son of Crown Prince Dara Shikoh, late 1600s. Shazada Muhammad Sulaiman Shikoh Bahadur was the eldest son of Prince Dara Shikoh of the Mughal dynasty. His father was named heir apparent after Emperor Shah Jahan fell ill in 1657, which led to a succession crisis with the other sons of the Emperor. Shah Jahan's third son Aurangzeb emerged victorious, and Sulaiman was forced to flee. He was eventually captured and imprisoned for a time, where he was poisoned regularly before being strangled to death in 1662.

His Highness, The Imperial Prince (Shahzada) Dara Shikoh ( March 20, 1615 – August 30, 1659) was the eldest son and the heir apparent of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and his wife Mumtaz Mahal. His name in Persian means 'Darius the Magnificent'. He was favoured as a successor by his father and his sister Princess Jahanara Begum, but was defeated by his younger brother Prince Muhiuddin (later the Emperor Aurangzeb) in a bitter struggle for the Imperial throne. The course of the history of the Indian subcontinent, had Dara prevailed over Aurangzeb, has been a matter of some conjecture among historians.
