These caused the removal of a consid- erable quantity of stock, in which lilies, hydrangeas and gladioli were the best sellers. Roses, also, had a good call for funeral work, but they have had such short stems that they have been suitahle only for set pieces. Asters are of ex- ceptionally fine quality and are used extensively in funeral sprays. Crego is the best variety in the market, and the stock is plentiful. Gladioli are of first-class quality and in good supply. Lilies are available in every seasonable variety. American Beauties are in mod- erate supply, but the demand is limited. Field-grown carnations do not cut much of a figure. There are practically no cattleyas and the supply of valley is small. There is a good variety of outdoor flowers, including antirrhinums, calendulas, cos- mos, daisies, larkspurs, delphiniums, hardy hydrangeas and zinnias. Sweet peas arc out of the market, but there is a fine lot of gypsophilas. Business during the month of August compared favorably with that of the same month last year. Funeral work has been in' almost unceasing demand, and there lias been a good demand for flowers for the
