Provincial States Buildings at Martini-kerkhof, Groningen, The Netherlands
The base of the present Martinichurch is a Romanogothic cross basilica built in the first half of the thirteenth century. In the course of the centuries the church has been adapted and rebuilt many times, just like the church tower. The Martini tower was built between 1470 and 1550, after a predecessor collapsed in 1468. The 'new' tower collapsed in 1577, after it caught fire by igniting bonfires. It was not until 1627 that the tower was repaired. The 97 meter high Olle Grieze can be visited by buying a ticket at the tourist office in Forum Groningen.
