During the winter, the beautiful sandy beaches of the Costa del Sol in southern Spain are frequently damaged by powerful storms, their sand being washed away. Large quantities of fresh sand then have to be deposited by man in order to keep the beaches attractive to tourists. This particular scene is of a large Caterpillar truck carrying surplus sand from Playa Cabopino to Playa Artola. The storms had deposited large quantities of sand in the sheltered bay of Playa Cabopino that had been washed off Playa Artola leaving the latter beach nearly devoid of sand and in danger of suffering severe erosion to its sand dunes that form part of a beautiful (and important) nature reserve.
