Captain Laurens V. Friese, a Marine bombadier navigator, is greeted by Marine Master Sergeant Francisco B. Icciano on the Clark Air Base flight line. Captain Friese, who served with Marine Airereft Group-1, was captured by the Viet Cong on February 24, 1968, when his aircraft crashed during a combat mission. He was released by the enemy on March 14, 1973, and subsequently hospitalized at the United States Naval Hospital in Great Lakes, Illinois. This photograph was taken during Operation Homecoming, a repatriation effort for US Marine POWs.
