The Sphere by Fritz Koenig, World Trade Center
Partially damaged in the attacks on the World Trade Center, this 45,000lb, 15ft-wide orb used to stand on top of a granite fountain between the two towers. It now stands in Battery Park as a memorial to the two towers and the lives taken there. It was designed by Fritz Koenig in 1971 as a symbol of peace through world trade. It was moved to Battery Park shortly after the attacks.
