Nuclear waste storage. Nuclear waste in plywood boxes & steel drums being placed in a dumping trench at a nuclear weapons testing site. The drums contain soil, tools, rags & other materials which have been contaminated with low levels of radioactivity during the manufacture of nuclear weapons. The levels of radioactivity are so low that no shielding is required to protect the workers. The trench is 210 metres long & 7 metres deep. Corrosion of the waste containers will be minimised because of the site's dry climate. Photographed at the Area 5 Radioactive Waste Management Site at Frenchman Flat in Nevada, USA.
