COLOEADO Speings, COLO.—John Barry has gone to Seattle, Wash., for the con- vention of the American Association of Park Superintendents. Thos. Meehan, of Dresher, Pa., and J. H. Dayton, of Storrs & Harrison, Painesville, O., were at Vancouver re- cently, enroute to Seattle, Wash. Eugene Kmery Transom, long a prominent nurseryman of Orleans. France, passed away at his home at the age of 72 years. The interment took place July 23. A "New Nursery Inspection Law and Quarantine Regulations of the State Board of Agriculture" has been issued in Oklahoma, and nurserymen doing business in that state should send for a copy of it to the office of the Board of Agriculture, Guthrie. A proclama- tion is also issued by the board, re- ferring to the rules and regulations governing quarantine, which it is equally desirable to obtain and peruse. ABOUT the most beautiful shrub planting we ever saw was on a visit to Lynmouth, England, one of the most charming seaside resorts on the west Devonshire coast. It consisted of Leycesteria formosa and the moun- tain ash. The leycesteria, we are glad to hear, Is being planted here, and although it will probably not be hardy in the northern states, yet there should be stations farther south where it will thrive, and the above combination may be tried. The purple and white clero- dendron-like bracts and flowers of the leycesteria, its large green leaves and the red berries of the rowan tree form an exquisit
