This wall painting decorated brick tile in a late Assyrian house in Assur (an Assyrian capital city located on the banks of the Tigris River - in present-day Iraq), from the time of Sargon II, who ruled 721-705 Sargon (left) is shown paying homage to the god Asur (also spelled Ashur and Assur), the chief god of the Assyrian pantheon. The god's right hand is raised, a symbol that he giving his blessing to Sargon.
