The brilliant perform-ance of Pinafore, which was given under her direction whenthe opera was quite new and had not been presented in this countryexcept in Boston, kindled a strong local interest in this form of enter-tainment, and was the first of a series of highly successful localperformances the exceptional merit of which was largely due toher gifts.
