The Church of Saints Constantine and Saint Helen (1477) and the Saint Clement School in Ohrid, Macedonia
The Church Saints Constantine and Helena in Ohrid, Macedonia is a Macedonian Eastern Orthodox church built in 1477. It is located near the Church of the Holy Mother of God Peribleptos (St. Clement). The inscription above the door mentions the donor - Partenie who is painted with a model of the church in his hands. Next to him are his mother Maria and his son Michael. From an architectural point of view this church is a single-nave one, with a transverse semi-rounded arch. The rectangular base is arched with a semi-rounded dome and finishes on the east with a three-sided apse. Further to the south side a small paraclis was built, dedicated to the great martyr St. Paraskeva (Petka). The interior of the church is completely painted with fresco-decorations. In the altar space Holy Mother of God Shirshaya is painted and next to her the holy archbishops Basil, Gregory, John and Athanasius. On the south wall there is a painting of Czar Constantine and his mother Helena. The frescoes of the second zone comprise the following compositions: "Descending of the Holy Spirit", "The Dormition of the Virgin" , "Last Supper" , "The Agony in the Garden", "The Renunciation of Peter" , "Lamentation" , "The Entombment of Christ". In the dome the most beautifull images of "Holy Father" "Holy Son" and "Holy Spirit" are painted. In the porch of the church special attention deserves the preserved fragment of the composition "40 Martyrs of Sebaste".
