HEREFORD, UNITED KINGDOM - JUNE 15: Conservative MP for Hereford and South Herefordshire Jesse Norman gives a speech on election night on June 8, 2017. Jesse Norman is one of the 72 Landlord/Conservative MPs who voted on 12th January 2016 against proposed new rules requiring private sector landlords to ensure their properties are fit for human habitation. The proposed Labour amendment to the government’s housing and planning bill, "Amendment 52 of the Housing Bill" was designed to ensure that all rented accommodation was safe for people to live in, was defeated by 312 votes to 219, a majority of 93. The Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) Bill would have updated a law introduced in the 19th century that requires homes under a certain rent limit to be “fit for human habitation”.
