The Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, Essendon, Hertfordshire. St Mary’s is built of flint with Ancaster stone dressings. The west tower dates to the fifteenth century which has been much restored. The rest of the church was rebuilt in 1883. In 1778 Mary Whitbread presented St Mary’s with a black basalt Wedgewood font.
