The Uloop which is supplied by the superiormesentric artery, is not able to movevery freely in a lateral direction, be-cause its apex is fixed by the attach-ment of the vitelline duct to the umbili-cus. It IS, however, able to rotatearound its base where the two limbs ofthe U are close together. After thefifth week the midgut increases inlength very , far out-stripping.
