Lumbar spine mobilisation treatment. Physiotherapist manipulating the lumbar (lower) region of a patient's spine, during a spinal mobilisation treatment session. Mobilisation is a form of manual manipulation designed to increase mobility in a patient. Manipulation involves the application of pressure or stretching to correct imbalances and tension in a patient's muscles, tendons and ligaments. This can be used to treat injuries or disorders of the musculoskeletal system, such as those affecting the joints between bones, as found in the spine. Lower back pain is a common disorder, and causes include poor posture and incorrect lifting of heavy loads.
